Some of the stories about the Talligewi
was that they came to the East Coast of the United States from South America.
James Moody wrote in his book ‘History, Myths of the Cherokee’ that the Delaware said that they were told by Talligewi elders that they came to the East Coast from across the great water in giant canoes.
Some stories said that they had originated in a land toward the rising sun. In this land they told about they also described great snakes and water monsters, which would have placed them near the sea and in very early times.
There is other speculation that they may have come from Europe or South America and somewhere around 1000 B.C. or possibly many centuries before that.
Some believe that they may have been survivors of the Maya Indians and there are other speculations that they may have been the remaining Israelites that crossed the desert with Moses in search for the promise land. Others wonder if they were the people of the mythical Atlantis.
But to this day there has never been any solid proof as to where they actually came from.
